What is our responsibility during these times?

There’s no doubt that our nation is facing historic times. Our students will likely be telling their children about their experiences during this pandemic, division, and racial unrest.  As educators, we have a duty to respond not only to each student’s needs, but also the times in which we live.

NEA President Lily Eskelsen-Garcia said last week that educators “are protectors of [a] public space wrought with inequities, bias, and institutional racism [and] we must also examine how white supremacy culture impacts our biases, our practices and the policies in our own schools and communities.”
