Teaching Tolerance Workshop

The Olathe NEA Racial & Social Justice Cadre, in collaboration with KNEA and the Olathe District Schools, brought in Teaching Tolerance on January 7th. About 80 educators from across the district–elementary to secondary–learned about facilitating critical conversations, especially discourse about race. Teaching Tolerance will return to the KC area in June, and we expect to see many more Olathe educators attend this training.

Val Brown was the trainer, and she brought in lots of resources, as well as her own personal experiences. Here are just few participant comments:

  • “I learned so much not just about school climates or issues, but about my own bias and understanding . . . It was such a great day of deep conversations with so many strategies I can’t wait to use with my own students.”
  •  “I have more skills to help students and teachers as a result of attending this workshop.”
  • “It was a very engaging, positive experience.”
